What: "Homeless Night Out" awareness event to benefit Bridge of Hope of York County
What is happening? Christian School of York students built overnight shelters out of cardboard boxes to experience what a night of homelessness might be like. They were not allowed to have cellphones, iPods and so on.
Where did it take place? In the school parking lot from 6:30 p.m. Friday until 9 a.m. this morning.
How was money raised? Students collected donations for Bridge of Hope's welcome home kits.
Quotable "It's really the student senate and the leadership team at Christian School of York saying, 'We want to educate our community on what the needs are,'" said Tammi T. Morris, executive director of Bridge of Hope.
Bridge of Hope is a nonprofit organization that assists homeless mothers and children through an 18- to 24-month program designed to bring stability, permanent housing, financial self-sufficiency and meaningful relationships to their lives.
