Requirements
Expectations:
Commitment to Christ. It is vital to have your commitment to obeying Christ, have a regular and active devotional
life, and practice love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. We expect
faculty and staff to model biblical principles in making choices, be humble in spirit, bold in Christ-like practice,
conscientious, and responsible.
Assistant Responsibilities
As a teacher assistant you are expected to:
a. Support the teacher in implementing a classroom management system.
b. Prepare materials or equipment in order to support the teacher in the implementation of planned lessons.
c. Assist teacher in maintaining a safe environment for children.
f. Assist the lead teacher in ensuring the spiritual, cognitive, emotional, social, and physical growth of students.
g. Assist teacher by working with students, either in small groups or individually according to the teacher’s directions.
h. Record any crucial observations regarding student development and ensure that it is communicated to the lead
teacher.
i. Assist with recess and/or lunch duties as assigned.
3. Classroom Environment – Interacting With Students
In relating with students and assisting the teacher in managing the classroom, you are expected to:
a. Establish a climate of love, kindness, care, and respect.
b. Interact with children at their level (i.e. speaking with students at eye level).
c. Assist in reinforcing the classroom behavioral management plan for the classroom, which includes consequences
for poor behavior and positive reinforcement for good behavior.
d. Promote and encourage independence and use of self-help skills.
e. Be an example of Christian behavior for students.
f. Help students learn self-discipline through appropriate encouragement, correction, and counseling.
4. Community Relations
In community relations you are expected to:
a. Celebrate Christian education in the broader community.
b. Seek contributions from community members in educating the school's students.
c. Participate actively in the community, especially the church community.
d. Model love for Christ and students beyond the school day and campus.
e. Support student extracurricular activities through your presence at various school events.
5. Professionalism
All employees are expected to:
a. Be present and on duty at your agreed upon starting time. This means settled and ready to accept students in the
classroom. When students come in, greet students acknowledging them by name.
b. Be on duty until your agreed upon ending time.
c. Work constructively with colleagues and administration by contributing ideas and listening to the ideas of others.
e. Respond to email in a timely manner.
f. Adhere to the policies and procedures documented in the CSY Personnel Handbook and the CSY Handbook.
