Updates and Praises from the Board of Trustees

Dear families of CSY,

Greetings and Happy New Year from the CSY Board of Trustees. The Association Relations Committee of the Board would like to give you an update on some of the items we have been working on together as a Board, in addition to our normal duties of Policy Governance in leading our school. As a board, our first objective is to advance and shepherd our mission of “Equipping students through academic rigor and uncompromising Biblical truth to impact the world for Christ.” Part of achieving this objective is to keep you apprised of our work, key developments, major accomplishments, and ongoing needs.

It is with the school’s mission firmly in mind that we continue to be thankful for our Superintendent, Andy Bell, and the entire leadership team of the school. We can attest that Mr. Bell, the principals, administrators, faculty, and staff of CSY continually work to pursue the glorification of God through CSY. It has truly been through God’s grace and provision that we have such good and effective people standing in leadership and as educators at CSY.

With this same spirit of thankfulness to the Lord, we can share that we have successfully reassembled the CSY Advisory Committee. This committee is comprised of accomplished and successful leaders in business, education, and ministry from our community, who also have past and/or current ties to CSY. The advisors currently serving on this committee are Mr. Rick Jones, Mr. and Mrs. John and Pam Miller, Pastor Bob Reidy, Mrs. Loni Smith, Dr. Peter Teague, and Mr. Ryan Wall. They have generously agreed to meet with us at least twice each school year over the next two years (and hopefully beyond), providing valuable insight and wisdom into how we can better develop the school’s strategic plan, marketing and advancement, and various initiatives that will further CSY’s reach and success. We first met with the advisors in October and are planning to meet with them again this February as well as later in the school year.

Additionally, this school year the Board completed a multi-year process to revise our governing policies to align more closely with best practices and ensure CSY is able to operate efficiently and with honor. The Board voted to approve the updated policy manual on September 27th, 2022. This policy revision began with a model set of policies developed by Policy Governance experts which were then unified with our existing policies and shaped to fit our school’s needs. The revised Board Policies are available on Renweb.

Next, the CSY Board of Trustees typically has nine (9) elected members, with each serving on committees and lending their wisdom and expertise to our work. Earlier this year, in keeping with Board Policy, Naomi Brown resigned her position as Trustee when her husband, Waylon, assumed the role of Band Instructor. We thank Naomi for her service to the Board, and especially for providing her financial expertise on the Investment and Finance Committee. Per our bylaws, the CSY Board is permitted to appoint another qualified individual to a vacated trustee seat. After a thorough search and interview process, we have voted to appoint Julie Rosenau to complete the remainder of Naomi’s term. We thank Julie for her willingness to serve, and are thankful to once again have a full contingent of nine trustees.

Finally, while it has been a joy to share good news, major accomplishments, and new developments, we must also share a few needs. The holiday season has come and gone, and before we know it, spring will be upon us. On April 27th, 2023, we will again hold our annual Association meeting when Association members will vote for new trustee candidates. As a reminder, all parents or guardians of students in grades K-12, as well as employees of the school, are members of the Christian School Association of York, and as such are co-owners of the school and thus bear the responsibility of furthering the mission of CSY. This objective is carried out as you support the school and share the wonderful things that are happening in your students' lives with friends, neighbors, co-workers, and anyone else who will listen. But of equal importance is your role in electing the trustees who serve on the Board. We need you to set aside the evening of April 27th, 2023, to attend this meeting. We have already begun a search for new candidates and will continue to do so until we have assembled a list of candidates for the three positions whose terms are expiring at the end of the school year. The Board invites Association members to attend a presentation and Q&A session to be held on Tuesday, February 7 at 6:00 pm in the CSY conference room, dedicated to better understanding the work and function of the Board. This session will be an opportunity for Association members to consider serving and also to be better equipped to elect members to serve. We need you to pray that those whom God is calling to serve as trustees will respond and that we will be equipped to serve well. For those who desire to participate in this meeting, please reach out to us and let us know. You can email the Board at comments@csyonline.com.

In closing, the Board would like to thank the Lord for each of you, the many families of CSY. It is our sincere desire to continue to lead this school in a way that honors the Lord. Thank you for entrusting the faculty, staff, and leadership of CSY with the education of your children.

In Him,

The CSY Board of Trustees
