Requirements
Interact and Assist Students:
You will have daily interaction with students and should:
• Model Christ’s love by establishing a climate of love and care.
• Help students learn self-discipline through appropriate encouragement, correction, chastening and help.
Confidentiality: School employees are sometimes around discussions that are of a confidential nature. You are required to maintain that confidentiality and not discuss these matters with any other persons. All employees are mandated reporters and should immediately speak with administration if there is any concern for a student.
Duties and Responsibilities:
• Driver is responsible to pick-up and drop-off students as assigned by supervisor. Only students assigned to the van are allowed to ride in the vehicle.
• Driver is expected to be punctual and follow a specific pick-up and drop-off schedule. Driver should report any schedule changes needed to his/her supervisor so appropriate changes can be made and parents/guardians notified.
• Driver to notify supervisor of any delay or problems.
• Driver is to maintain the vehicle – filling gas tank, emptying trash, sweeping van as needed, etc.
• Driver should report any problems with the vehicle immediately to their supervisor.
• Driver is to follow all traffic laws and rules including the posted speed limit.
• Driver is to keep a daily mileage and passenger log.
• Driver is to properly warm-up the vehicle and ensure all frost, ice, and/or snow are cleared from the vehicle’s windows before driving in the colder months.
• Drivers are able to keep the van at the driver’s residence as long as safe parking is available. This is subject to change if the vehicle is needed on campus.
• Vehicle is to be locked at all times when not in use.
• Driver is to keep the gas tank filled with appropriate levels of gas to complete the route. Vehicle should be filled with gas before or after the route is completed.
• Vehicle is to only be used for CSY purposes and should never be used for personal travel.
• Driver will be issued a Rutter gas card. This card is only to be used for CSY purposes and never used for personal travel or personal vehicles. Driver must input vehicle mileage at each fill-up. If gas card is lost or stolen, this must be immediately reported to driver’s supervisor.
• Driver will maintain godly character at all times and remember that you represent CSY to the families and other drivers.
• Should any concerns come up with a student or parent, the employee must immediately pull in their supervisor to help address the concerns.
General Vehicle Rules for Driver and Passengers:
• The van can only carry the number of passengers as the number of seats. No sharing of seats is allowed.
• All passengers must be in a seat assigned to them by the driver. There should be no moving around/trading of seats during the trip.
• All passengers must be properly buckled by their seatbelt for the entire duration of the trip. Students under the age of 8 are to utilize a booster or car seat.
• The driver is in charge of the passengers while they are aboard the vehicle and should be given the same respect as a classroom teacher.
• Driver should remain focused on driving and not allow behaviors or noises that are distracting to the driver.
• Passengers should avoid conversations with the driver that may cause distraction.
• Music should not be played if it causes a distraction to the driver. Music should be appropriate in nature.
• Profanity, obscene gestures, horseplay, throwing objects, fighting, and boisterous or other improper conduct will not be tolerated. Outside of ordinary conversation, classroom behavior will be observed by students.
• Students are generally not permitted to ride in the front seat of the vehicle.
• Passengers should keep their arms, head or other parts of the body inside the vehicle at all times.
• Driver will agree to random drug and alcohol screening in accordance with CSY policy.
